January 19, 2009 Hey, even local girls need to get out of town every once in a while! Visiting J's hometown and my home of a few years, a place we haven't been back to in 1 1/2 years. I wouldn't be who I am today without my time living and working there, and it's always good to be back. Last time it was almost summer, a time when NY is lush, green and almost tropical with its heat and rainstorms. This visit was graced with snow (which is SO much more beautiful when you don't have to live in it), and it gave everything a fresh, untouched look so rare to NYC.
It's funny how a place can implant itself into your memory...the energy, the noise, the sights, the smells of the city brought back memories of trudging my way to work and back. Did I mention the smells...?
So anyway, here's some highlights including a walk along the Bronx River, home cooking, revisiting CBGB's - where J and the guys played countless shows (we had to see it now, after it's become a cheesy men's clothing store), and a native New Yorkers' first trip to the Empire State Building... xoxo
oh...PS: Yes, we flew out the day before that amazing landing on the Hudson. Believe me, if we hadn't I'd still be driving a rental car across the country to get home...
